40 days of working to support Hampshire Staff and Faculty ♥️
Our community’s response to this campaign has been extraordinary!
When we first opened our aid request form to Hampshire employees earlier this month, our fundraising campaign had just passed $90,000.
Since then, more than 930 donors have contributed to the Emergency Relief Fund, and this week, we are honored to share that we have received a $250,000 gift from the Joannie Fischer Charitable Fund.
Together, we've now raised over $460,000 to support Hampshire College staff and faculty facing sudden job loss without severance! Donations of all sizes have helped make major gifts like this possible, fueling our campaign and raising awareness of our efforts—thank you for your support and for helping make developments such as this possible.
Over the past week, a review team made up of Hampshire staff and faculty has completed the first round of aid review and distribution planning. In total, 81 aid awards are being distributed, totaling $140,500. Initial requests for aid reflected urgent and immediate financial strain, including healthcare expenses, housing instability and eviction prevention, increased insurance costs tied to job loss, childcare, and transition/job-search expenses.
In response to the level of need expressed by our community over the past few weeks, and encouraged by your generosity, we are increasing our campaign goal to $600,000.
We have now opened a second round of aid requests on May 27 to continue distributing relief funds to Hampshire employees. This effort has only been possible because of the extraordinary generosity of donors, organizers, alumni, students, neighbors, colleagues, and friends who have stepped forward to support Hampshire workers during an incredibly difficult moment.
Thank you for helping provide a critical lifeline to Hampshire College staff and faculty.
